After completing the PCBA processing, residues are often found on the surface of the PCBA. These residues can affect both the appearance and the quality of the PCBA. Therefore, cleaning the PCBA is crucial. Below, we will discuss manual cleaning methods and automatic cleaning processes.
Manual Cleaning
Small and medium-sized PCBA processing plants typically use manual cleaning due to its cost-effectiveness.
Tools for Manual Cleaning:
- Cleaning tank
- Spray tank
- Brush
- IPA (Isopropyl Alcohol) or VIGON EFM
- Gloves
- Deionized water
- Lint-free wiping cloth
- Air gun
- Sealing bag
Steps for Manual Cleaning:
1. Clean the circuit board using IPA or VIGON EFM, applying about 10 ml for every 4 square inches. Alternatively, you can spray IPA and EFM on the surface of the circuit board.
2. Use a wet, soft brush to continuously wipe the circuit board for approximately 10 seconds.
3. Rinse the board with deionized water, about 10 ml per 4 square inches, to effectively remove any remaining pollutants.
4. Wipe off excess deionized water with a clean, lint-free cloth around the edges of the circuit board.
5. Visually inspect the cleanliness of the circuit board.
6. If necessary, use an air gun to dry the circuit board.
7. If the circuit board or its components need to be stored temporarily before coating, place them in a sealed bag with a desiccant.
PCB Assembly Cleaning Method
Automatic Cleaning
The automatic cleaning process can be divided into three methods: water cleaning, semi-water cleaning, and solvent cleaning.
Tools and Materials for Automatic Cleaning:
- Water washer
- Deionized water system
- Conductivity tester
- Beaker
- Deionized water
Steps for Automatic Cleaning:
1. Preparation of Deionized Water: Deionized water is prepared using an electrodialysis device and an ion exchange resin tank.
2. Conductivity Test: Use a conductivity tester to measure the conductivity of the water after it has passed through the electrodialysis and ion exchange resin tank. If it meets the required indicators, it is suitable for water cleaning.
3. Fill the Water Washer: Transfer the deionized water from the storage tank to the water washer.
4. Set Washing Machine Parameters: Adjust the washing chamber and rinsing chamber temperature to 60 ± 10 °C, and set the drying chamber temperature between 60 °C and 90 °C.
5. Adjust Chain Speed: Control the chain speed of the cleaning machine to be between 50 and 150 cm/min.
6. After cleaning, remove the PCBA from the cleaning machine and store it in an anti-static turnover container. Ensure that the turnover container is clean and dust-free to avoid secondary contamination of the PCBA after cleaning.
