I. In corporate offices, campus networks, factory workshops, whole-home networking and data centre environments, switches are key network devices for enabling data interconnection between multiple devices, link distribution and network expansion. As the core component of a switch, the PCBA circuit board handles key functions such as data exchange, signal forwarding, port management and power supply control, and directly determines the switch’s forwarding performance, port stability, device capacity and long-term operational reliability. It can be said that the differences in switch quality stem fundamentally from the design, materials and manufacturing processes of the internal PCBA.
II. The switch PCBA integrates the main control switch chip, PHY (Physical Layer) chips, network port transformers, memory and flash storage, power management modules, surge protection circuits and signal filtering units. Its core function is to receive data packets from various terminal devices, rapidly identify the target port, accurately forward data, and prevent network congestion and broadcast storms. Whether it is a 100Mbps home switch, a 1Gbps enterprise switch, or a 10Gbps core managed switch, all data routing and signal processing are carried out by the PCBA circuit system.

III. Switches operate continuously 24/7 year-round. Given the enclosed, high-temperature environment of server rooms, power grid fluctuations and frequent electrostatic interference, the reliability requirements for PCBAs far exceed those of ordinary consumer products. PCBA boards for professional-grade switches are manufactured using high-TG flame-retardant PCB materials, which are heat-resistant, resistant to delamination and warping, and highly resistant to ageing, enabling them to withstand continuous operation under high loads over the long term. Components are prioritised to meet industrial-grade specifications, capable of withstanding wide temperature ranges, thereby effectively reducing the likelihood of faults such as system crashes, port disconnections and packet loss.
IV. In terms of circuit design, the switch PCBA places great emphasis on EMC (electromagnetic compatibility) and signal integrity. The differential signal lines of the network ports are strictly impedance-matched and routed to equal lengths to minimise signal attenuation and crosstalk, ensuring lossless transmission of high-speed Gigabit and 10 Gigabit data. Digital control circuits and network analogue circuits are laid out in separate zones, with isolation between high- and low-voltage circuits. This is complemented by extensive ground planes and shielding to suppress internal electromagnetic interference. Additionally, standard features include lightning protection, surge protection, and overcurrent/overvoltage protection circuits, making the switch suitable for thunderstorms and complex industrial power environments, and preventing damage to the main board caused by external lightning strikes.
V.In terms of manufacturing, the high-end switch PCBA utilises a multi-layer, thick-copper board design, offering strong current-carrying capacity and excellent heat dissipation, making it suitable for high-density, multi-port concurrent scenarios. The SMT precision mounting process ensures accurate placement of minute components and uniform, full solder joints, eliminating the risk of cold solder joints or poor connections at the source. Before leaving the factory, the product undergoes ageing tests, high and low-temperature cycling, and full-port load stress testing to ensure smooth operation without lag or packet loss when multiple devices are online simultaneously.
VI. With the advancement of enterprise digitalisation, upgrades to data centre computing power, and the widespread adoption of whole-home fibre-optic networking, the transition from Gigabit to 10 Gigabit and 25G high-speed switches is accelerating. Consequently, switch PCBAs are evolving towards higher integration, higher port density, high-speed signal transmission, enhanced heat dissipation, and intelligent management and control.
VII: Though seemingly unremarkable, the switch serves as the traffic hub of the entire local area network, and the PCBA is the core foundation behind it. Only through excellent circuit layout, robust board materials and components, and a mature SMT manufacturing process can switches operate stably over the long term, providing enterprises, factories and home networks with high-speed, smooth and lag-free data transmission.
